Florence is preparing to experience the magic of the Festa della
Rificolona, the event that takes place every year on September 7th, on the eve of the birth of the Madonna,
brings back to the city the colors, lights and warmth of a tradition that has its roots in the seventeenth century.
The center of the events is in Piazza della Santissima Annunziata.
The Historical Parade passes through Ponte Vecchio and Piazza della Signoria around 8:30–9:00 pm, heading toward Piazza della Santissima Annunziata.
Typical program: The evening includes a greeting from the authorities, the blessing of the lanterns, live music, and often the “Graziano Grazzini Award” for the most beautiful lantern.
Atmosphere: It is a festival much loved by children, who parade with homemade lanterns, often accompanied by the traditional song: “Ona, ona, ona, ma che bella rificolona!”
